How To Plan A Great Staycation

With summer approaching, the pressure to start planning a great family vacation begins to set in! Of course, a family vacation is supposed to be a fun, memorable event – but if money is tight, it can be a supremely stressful event for the parents! When money is tight, one great solution is to plan a “staycation” – a vacation at home – instead of planning one for which you will have to travel.

The first step of planning a staycation is setting the dates and making sure everyone recognizes that these days will be treated the same as if you were on vacation! If you have teenagers, this can be especially difficult, as they might decide tha the idea of a staycation is “lame,” and that they would rather go hang out with their friends. But if you want to have a successful staycation, it will be important that you make sure everyone is around; your kids should not be off with their friends, and you and your spouse should not be off shopping or playing golf!

@@CBTEXT;4U2RCFIND;101 Great Staycations@@!

Keeping the staycation shorter than a regular vacation would be is also a big key, as this will make it easier to convince everyone to be around. If you would maybe take a week-long vacation were you to travel, shorten this to a four day vacation if you are staying at home. And actually, your staycation is still providing you with plenty of time, as two days of a travel vacation are usually consumed with travel anyway.

And the biggest thing left to do once you have the days set aside and have convinced everyone to be there is making sure you have things planned to do. If everyone in your family is just sitting around the house during your staycation, you will end up with some of them reading, some of them watching television, and some of them talking on the phone. Plan games for the time when everyone is at home, and plan events away from the house – just like a real vacation!

There are many people who find that their best family vacations are their staycations; you can find the same thing, if you plan correctly!

Tips For Starting A Fire When Camping

If you are going to be taking a camping trip, one of the most important things will be building a fire, and while you might have thought that building a fire while camping is as simple as stacking some wood and lighting it on fire (and while it is, in fact, sometimes this simple!), you will usually have to know a few more things than just this. Before you leave for your camping trip – regardless of whether you are going by yourself, with friends, or with family – these are some specific things you should make sure you know before you try to build your campfire.

The first thing you will want to do is make sure that it is legal for you to build a fire; if you are camping at a campsite, this will be important, as there will usually be people there who police things and make sure no fires are being build where they should not be, and if you are going camping in the woods, this will be even more important, as building a fire in an illegal area could lead to a forest fire!

In order to prepare for your fire, you will want to dig a pit in which you can keep the fire, stacking rocks around it to make sure the fire does not spread, and then you will want to make sure that you have enough extra wood handy that you will not have to go searching for it when you need to add to the fire.

@@ADSENSE@@.

The easiest part of building a fire will be actually building the fire - simply stack the wood in such a way that air will be able to flow through it, then add some dry tinder underneath and get the fire going!

One thing you should consider is bringing dry tinder with you for the trip, as this will keep you from having to scrounge around for it when you are trying to build your fire, and you should also bring matches and a flint (in case the matches get wet), as this will help you ensure that you will be able to get your fire going!

Taking Good Care Of Your Lawnmower

Most people do not actually make money by using their lawnmower, and because of this, most people fail to realize that their lawnmower truly is an investment; with your lawnmower (and with a bit of time and effort from you), your lawnmower actually saves you lots of money, as you can mow the lawn yourself instead of hiring someone else to do it. This means that it is worth your time and effort to take care of your lawn mower – taking care of it in the same way you would take care of anything else that you view as an investment!

When it comes to taking care of your lawnmower, the first thing you will want to do is also the easiest thing to do: lots of people decide that they do not want to use storage space in their garage or in their shed for their lawnmower, but nothing will wear out your lawnmower quicker than the elements, so make room to store your lawnmower where it will be protected from the sun, the wind, and rain, and it will last a whole lot longer.

@@CBTEXT;LANDSCAPE9;Check Out These Awesome Landscaping Ideas And Plans@@!

Lots of people also get right out into their yard and start mowing, never taking the time to pick up sticks and clear rocks out of the way; even though your lawnmower might be able to chop up sticks and spit out rocks, this will be very bad for the blades, so before you start mowing, take a few minutes to walk the yard and pick up all the sticks and rocks that will be in the way.

And lastly, taking the time to just do the little things – such as making sure it has as much gas and oil as it needs and keeping the blades and the outside of the lawnmower clean – will go a long way in stretching the life of your lawnmower, helping your “investment” to last much longer.

Using A GPS To Get Where You Are Going

You have surely come to realize how valuable GPS devices can be, especially on long road trips, if you have ever used one before. And even though your might think you do not need a GPS device, as you can find your way around town just fine, or as your car has a navigation system of its own, there is nothing like being able to bring your GPS device with you wherever you go. You will be able to find your way around no matter where you are driving if you have a portable GPS device, no matter if you are in an unfamiliar place, in a friend’s car, or even in a rental car.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System, and it is a form of navigation that uses satellites to help you find your way to any destination. And while you can simplify travel a great deal with a good GPS system, you can also complicate travel a great deal with a bad GPS system! Use this guide to pick between two of the best GPS devices available, understanding the pros and cons of each.

For only $125 on Amazon, you can purchase the high-end model of the @@AMAZONTEXT;B003B3P2CY;Tom Tom@@, one of the best and most affordable options out there.

This device has quick mapping and a screen that is easy to view, and it works exceptionally well in helping you get to your destination. Complaints about the Tom Tom, however, deal with its traffic function – which is a great bonus, but which does not always work perfectly – and with the fact that the Tom Tom sometimes loses satellite signal.

The bestselling GPS device is the @@AMAZONTEXT;B003ZX8B3W;Garmin@@, which is worth every bit of the $200 price tag on the high end models. The Garmin is nearly perfect when it comes to navigation and helping you reach your destination in a stress-free manner. The Garmin does, however, have problems in the non-navigational areas, such as allowing users to easily download new software from the website without experiencing great lags.

While getting lost on the way to your destination is certainly adventurous, it is never something you want to set out to do! The money you will spend on a GPS device such as the Tom Tom or the Garmin will certainly be worth it when you are able to get to your destination without any problem at all!

How Do I Know How Much Sleep I Need?

You will hear all sorts of different advice from all different sources when it comes to the amount of sleep your body “needs.” The most prevalent advice – as far as sleep goes – claims that adults need to get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep in order to be optimally healthy, and that those who get under 6 hours of sleep per night are at much higher health risk. But other studies have come up with results that show that those who sleep between 4 and 6 hours are at lower health risk than those who sleep between 7 and 8, and that those who sleep more than 8 hours per night are at the highest health risk of all!

image

There is actually a simple explanation for this disparity from study to study: every person requires a different amount of sleep, and each person must find out what is the optimal amount for them; furthermore, finding out how much sleep you need yourself is actually a very simple process.

@@CBTEXT;AFRICAPIC1;How To Sleep Properly@@

First off, you need to realize that nearly everyone feels tired when they first wake up, and the worst way to try to find what is the “right amount” for you is to ask yourself how much sleep you need to get before you “feel like” getting out of bed in the morning! Instead, you need to spend some time disciplining your body and mind until you get used to waking up at the exact same time every day. Once you have finally trained your body and mind to know that they will be waking up at the same time every day, the next step is really quite simple: do not go to bed until you are actually tired enough to fall asleep right away!

When you do this, you will eventually train your body to grow tired at the time you need to go to sleep, as it will know exactly how much sleep it will get before it wakes up at that standard morning time!

Optimizing Your Air Conditioner

When the summer heat is blazing, one thing that will be really important is that you are able to maximize the effectiveness of your air conditioner, as this is not only helpful in making the temperature in your house more bearable, but is also helpful in saving you money on the cost of cooling your home. Even though optimizing one’s air conditioner is not a difficult thing to do, many people fail to gain the necessary knowledge for doing so, and because of this, they end up with a house that is either a lot warmer than it needs to be or that is costing them a lot more money to cool!

Fans: Most people only think of fans as something they can point toward their own self to help them cool off, but you can actually use fans for more than just “pointing them on you on a hot day”; if you have ceiling fans in your house, you should keep these running, as this will help to distribute the cool air from the air conditioner, and you can also use smaller fans on desks or tables to keep the air in motion.

@@ADSENSE@@.

Shades: The sun streaming into your house can certainly be nice, but you need to realize that the sun will cause your rooms to get hot more quickly than anything else will, and you can save a lot of money on air conditioning costs by simply keeping your shades drawn!

Unused rooms: If you have rooms that you never use (or that you rarely use), you can save money on air conditioning costs – and can also keep your house cooler in general – by closing the air conditioning vents in these rooms and keeping the doors to these rooms closed during the summer.

If you make the effort to take these simple steps, you can keep your house a whole lot cooler – without spending as much money – as these steps will help you avoid the mistakes that so many people make when it comes to cooling their homes.

Is Running Bad For My Body?

People have made greater efforts to exercise and keep their body in good shape as they have become more health conscious over recent years, and as people have begun to do become more health conscious, running has become more and more popular. For years, it was thought that running was one of the best ways to stay in shape, as it gave your entire body a great workout, but in recent years, you may have begun hearing that running is not nearly as good for you as people thought – and because of this, the question that comes to mind is this: is running good for my body?

“Running is great for your body” is the simple and immediate answer to this question; it is an excellent cardiovascular workout, and it gets your core in shape as well as your legs – helping you lose weight, look great, and feel a whole lot better.

@@ADSENSE@@.

Of course, there is an argument against running that is just as compelling, as running puts a lot of strain on your joints, as well as on your back muscles; in fact, some studies nowadays suggest that running is worse for you than doing nothing at all, as it would be better to be out of shape than have back and joint problems for the rest of your life.

We truly do not know whether running is good or bad for you, which is what this whole argument boils down to in the end; if you have been running for years, and have never experienced serious problems, it is probably okay for you to continue. But if you are wanting to pick up a new exercise, it is probably better to look for something else; after all, while you may not get as full of a workout as you would like from swimming or walking – or from doing some other low-impact workout – it would be far better to get a bit less exercise, and to preserve your body at the same time!

Getting Enough Water Throughout The Day

We all know that our bodies cannot survive without water, and that water is the most important element for us to give our bodies on a regular basis, and despite this knowledge, there are plenty of us who still do not give our bodies nearly enough water each day. You are supposed to give your body at least one gallon of water each day, which sounds like a lot (and which feels like a lot at first!), but if you come up with a system to make sure you are getting enough water, it will become much easier.

If you spend most of your day at home, a great way to make sure you get enough water is to set eight empty cups on the counter at the start of the day, and as you finish drinking a full glass from each cup, you can turn that cup over and move onto the next cup. Also, check the glasses in your house, as there is a good chance the glasses you use are 12 ounce glasses (instead of 8 ounce glasses), which means you can use six cups and actually get more than a gallon of water!

@@ADSENSE@@.

Some people also find that it is helpful to fill up a one gallon pitcher with water at the start of the day, and to make sure they fill their drinking cup only from this pitcher; of course, this approach is another one that works primarily for those who are home most of the day.

If you are not home for most of the day, an excellent approach is to get a water bottle that holds about a half gallon of water, and to keep it with your throughout the day, making sure you go through the bottle twice before the day ends (and in fact, many people who are home during the day find this method helpful as well).

At first, it might feel like you are drinking a lot more water than you actually need, but in time you will start to feel more comfortable drinking this much water - and more importantly, your body will thank you by being healthier and by functioning more efficiently!

Understanding Publishing

Understanding the world of publishing will be one of the most important things for you if you are looking to write a book - and as you start to explore the world of publishing for yourself, you will find that there are publishing houses that are called “small presses” and there are publishing houses that are “large presses” or “major publishing houses. A great example of a tremendous major publishing house is one such as Random House, while a great example of a tremendous small press is Atticus Books; while there are certainly positives and negatives about both types of presses, there are some misconceptions about each as well, and you will need to make sure you understand the facts on both sides, and that you also understand the differences between the two.

If you are approaching a major publishing house, you first have to land an agent – which can sometimes take just as long as it will eventually take you to land a publishing deal; many small presses, on the other hand (Atticus Books being just one example out of many) allow you to contact them directly.

@@ADSENSE@@.

As you move into the next steps of the publishing process, this leaning toward “direct contact” carries over also; while a small press will not have a staff nearly as large as those of the major publishing houses, they will also be publishing far fewer books, and this enables them to work much more closely (and directly!) with each author than a major publishing house ever could.

There is a misconception among many aspiring authors that small presses do not run their operation as well as the major publishing houses do, but while this is true for some small presses, it is certainly not a blanket that can be draped over all; for instance, Atticus Books not only boasts a highly-regarded editorial and marketing department, but they also use the same book designer that has worked with a number of international bestsellers and Pulitzer Prize winners!

In the end, you will have to decide which path is right for you if you are looking to publish a book, but make sure you do your own research and make your own decisions, rather than simply going off of what others have led you to believe!

@@ADSENSE@@.

There is hardly a person who does not deal with headaches every so often, and one of the troubling things about headaches is that they can take you out of commission for the day unless you take medicine to stop them – and if you are getting the headaches frequently, you probably do not want to be stuck putting all that medicine into your body!

When it comes to dealing with headaches, the best method (of course!) is to keep them away altogether, and in order to do this you need to have a list of some of the things that can cause headaches: dehydration, stress, poor nutrition, fatigue, depression, high blood pressure, and lack of sleep are all causes for different types of headaches – and if you can keep all these things off the table for yourself, you can generally keep headaches away!

When you do get headaches, however, there are a number of natural ways for you to cause them to cease and desist; the first thing you should do is make sure you have been drinking enough water and getting enough rest (and if you realize that one of these is likely the cause of your headache, you should remedy the situation), or if the headache is due to stress, you need to take some time to decompress.

Another great way to chase away headaches is with head massages, which you can administer yourself, or which you can have a friend administer for you; along the same lines as head massages, body massages (or better yet, a trip to the chiropractor!) can often chase away headaches.

Staying Visible Online

If you are in charge of the marketing and publicity for a business (whether for your own business or for someone else’s), one of the most important elements for success will be whether or not you are able to remain visible online. After all, more and more people are spending more and more of their time online, and if you are not “where the people are,” you will fail to remain in their minds – and of course, without remaining in customers’ minds, you will no longer be relevant to them!

The most important thing to realize about staying visible to your customers online is that you need to be consistent in your online activity; this means that you need to update your website regularly, and you need to strike up conversations with your customers by using such tools as a company blog and Twitter!

A lot of companies make the mistake of only Tweeting and providing content that relates to the business, but the last thing your customers want to do is hear about your business all the time; instead, you need to aim to talk to your customers about topics that interest them, as this will allow you to create the sense that your company is a friend of theirs, instead of being simply another company.

@@CBTEXT;GEOCLICKBA;Internet Marketing Software@@

A great idea is to post weekly polls on your website that only vaguely have anything to do with your company (or that have nothing to do with your company at all!), as people will enjoy visiting your site each week to vote on the poll.

Another great idea is to inject humor into the places your customers are regularly visiting – your blog, your website, your Twitter, or your facebook page – as this will keep a semblance of levity in your business dealings.

Once you get into the habit of “staying visible online,” you will find that you are able to accomplish this in only a few hours of work each week – and by taking these few hours every week, you will create a huge uptick in online visibility (and as a result, in profits!).
