Staying Calm When Trials Come Your Way

Although many people (perhaps most people, in fact!) wish that “trials” were an aspect of life they never had to deal with, the simple fact of the matter is that trials are simply a part of life, no matter where you live, what you do for a living, or what you do for fun – and rather than lamenting the fact that you have been hit with a trial, a much better approach to handling trials is knowing what you should do when they come your way. Of course, each individual person is unique and different – for that matter, each individual trial is unique and different – but when you know some of the basic things you can do in order to keep yourself calm when trials come your way, you will be much better equipped to handle such trials, no matter what they are or when they occur.

Instead of running away from a trial, the best way to take care of a trial is by facing it – but while many people are aware of this truth, it is also true that you need to be able to identify exactly what the trial is before you can face it; when you recognize that you are in the midst of a trial, the first thing you should do is take the time to identify and define exactly what the trial is.

When in the midst of a trial, it is easy for this trial to become a sort of all-consuming ordeal or frustration, where you are not really thinking about much besides the trial itself – but this is the opposite of what you should do; instead, you should attempt to focus on all the good things in your life outside of the trial itself.

And as you work to focus on the good things outside of the trial, you should also work to focus on the big picture of things; at some point, the trial will end, and – as is the case with every trial – you will someday look back on it and it will look a lot smaller than it did in the moment, so always keep this view of things in mind, and it will be a lot easier for you to stay calm as you endure the duration of the trial itself.

How To Strive Forward All The Time

When it comes to “rules in life that tend to apply to every person,” there are actually very few, but one rule that most people agree applies to just about everyone is this: if you are not moving forward in life, you are moving backward – and this applies to your life as it pertains to work, relationships, and life itself. Of course, some people would contend that there is actually a middle ground as well – where you are not moving forward in these areas, but where you are instead simply stationary – but even if this is true, being stationary (or stagnant!) is not a whole lot better than moving backward, so it is worth it to know how you can make sure you are always moving forward in all three of these areas.

Whether you are moving forward or backward in your work is often the question most easily answered, as there are typically measurables that can indicate which is the case; in order to make sure you are moving forward instead of backward, your goal at work should be to always look for the “over the top” (the “above and beyond”) things that you can do in your job – and then to make an effort to do these things!

This can be a bit more difficult to recognize as far as relationships are concerned, until you regress so much in your relationship with someone that you cannot help but realize; rather than putting yourself in a position where you reach this point, it is far better to always move forward in your relationships – and one of the best ways to do so is to always make an effort to make memories together instead of simply “hanging out” and passing the time.

And when it comes to the question of life itself, this is often the most difficult to identify, and the most difficult to turn around; if you want to make sure you are moving forward in life, however, the best thing to do is to know what your goals are – and then to make sure you are constantly making an effort to chase these goals!

Is Your Business Plan Reasonable?

Perhaps you’ve started your own business, but your profits have not been as high as you’d hoped they’d be. Business hasn’t been booming, or perhaps you’re discovering expenses are not being offset by returns. Perhaps your staff hasn’t performed as well as you’d counted on. Your position as small business owner is a stressful one, and you may find yourself up nights worrying about if your business will sink or swim.

Part of the challenge is determining the difference between a great business set up, and a great idea. A great business plan will bring success, but a good idea will only carry you so far. The following questions are designed to help you evaluate your business plan’s practical value: Do have I have at least a year’s experience in this business?

Can I find someone to teach me this area of business and help me identify what I’m missing?

Do I have a realistic understanding of the overhead required to run this particular business? Is the start up cost low enough that I can grow the business? If the start up costs have been exorbitant, is there a ventural captialist that might want to invest?

Is this business based on a tried and proven idea? Am I sure these advertising and marketing techniques will work in this business vertical?

Have I presented a clear picture or brand of what ambiance, level of service, and type of menu my small business serves, or do potential customers have to guess?

Am I competing with similar small businesses nearby? Have I chosen my location wisely?

Am I charging similar rates to the other local businesses? Do I know for certain that I am providing a product or service that is comparable or superior to the competition?

Do I have enough money put aside to fund this business (without a large profit margin) for at least a year?

Utilize these questions to build a business plan that will get you that those first couple years.
